Richard's primary business focus has been technical due diligence and organisational risk control, the construction of risk and reliability based models for common law and investment payback criteria, short course presentations and liability briefings, facilitating workshops and as an expert witness.

He is the principle author of Risk & Reliability - An Introductory Text now in it's seventh edition and the Distance Education Unit, Risk & Liability Management administered through Engineering Education Australia and moderated by Deakin University.

Richard presents the two-day public short course on Risk & Liability Management on behalf of Engineering Education Australia.

Experience
A career risk engineer, Richard has over 30 years experience in the industry. Richard has previously been responsible for implementing major risk and reliability studies and technical due diligence reviews for large organisations including risk review for the Office of Airspace Regulation, Civil Aviation Safety Authority, AirServices Australia, South Port NZ, Silverfern Shipping NZ, Tasports, V/Line Passenger Services, Rail Corporation NSW and the review of the performance of the Office of Gas Safety.

Recent undertakings include the development of alternate airspace collision risk models for the Civil Aviation Authority, New Zealand and the Office of Airspace Regulation Australia; strategic risk reviews for the Marina Coastal Expressway, Singapore and Tugun Bypass on the Gold Coast; due diligence reviews for rockfalls in cuttings for Railcorp NSW; hazardous atmospheres in laboratories (CSIRO); a large number of SIL (Safety Integrity Levels) allocations studies and enterprise availability studies for Melbourne Water and others. He was recently a member of the ministerial peer review panel for Eildon Reservoir.

Richard currently has a risk advisory role to the boards of the Australian Marine Pilots Association Training and Education board and Transpower, New Zealand.
