Risk consulting mostly means examining the down side issues of complex social, technological and commercial systems, for example avoiding aircraft collisions, ensuring port expansions, avoiding exploding chemical plants or ensuring that safety critical software and/or other infrastructure / equipment does not fail.

This is not a career for everyone, especially those who revel in 'success'. Success for a risk consultant means that nothing went wrong, that is, an absence of pink elephants rather than an identifiable collections of tusks.
